Quinoa (pronounced KEEN-wah) is a 7,000-year-old plant that originated in the mountainous region of South America. While it is commonly known as an “ancient grain,” quinoa is technically not a grain nor a cereal, but a seed that is gluten-free. It is a rare plant food that is a complete protein source, containing all the 20 amino acids, including the 10 essential acids our body can't produce on its own.
The glycemic index (GI) of quinoa is 53, which is lower than the GI of couscous. A low GI means that it will cause a spike in your blood sugar to decrease.
Agrophilia White Quinoa is the regular Quinoa variety that we have. These seeds are also known as Golden Quinoa for their brown-like appearance. Originally brought from Canada, these seeds are natively grown in Rajasthan due to their better adaptability in this region. This variety of Quinoa has a better yield and can be grown in arid regions with very little water. Quinoa is not only a superfood for it’s nutritional value but also because it is a sustainable crop, it requires less water, and no pesticide (due to saponin) thus leaving less carbon footprint than other conventional grains.
