The ADNS-3080 is an optical mouse sensor that senses high-speed mouse movements up to 40 inches/s and accelerated speed up to 15g.

The module measures positional changes by optically acquiring continuous surface images (frames) and mathematically determining the direction and size of movement, no precise optical alignment needed.

It is integrated with image acquisition system (IAS), digital signal processor (DSP) ) and four-wire serial port.

IAS captures microscopic surface images through the lens and illumination system. These images are processed by the DSP to determine direction and distance motion. The DSP calculates the relative displacement values ​​of x and y. The lower position will see the surface features move closer when height is changing, so the light flow value will be larger. The external microcontroller reads the x and y information from the sensor serial port. Then, the microcontroller converts the data to for PS2 or USB signal before sending the data to the host PC or game console.
