Dinotefuran is part of the insecticide class neonicotinoids, neuro-active insecticides that are modeled after nicotine. Dinotefuran is acentral nervous system inhibitor that takes effect after insects ingest it.

The effects of the active ingredient are slow enough that roaches who have consumed Advance Cockroach Gel Bait will come in contact with other roaches and transfer the active ingredient, either directly or indirectly through feeding on feces or poisoned carcasses. There is no known pest resistance to dinotefuran.
